About

The work behind the workflow.

My career spans financial analysis, audit, and research operations. Across those roles, I’ve worked with information that other people need to rely on: financial models, audit evidence, and systematic reviews.

I now build software and data tools around the problems that experience has taught me to notice—records that disagree, processes that are difficult to manage, and reports that need a clearer trail back to their inputs.

Research operations, then code

As Managing Editor at Cochrane Urology, I support systematic-review preparation and publication: editorial quality assurance, author coordination, peer review, and the information that keeps that work moving. I held this role from April 2018 to December 2021 and returned in September 2025. Between those stints, I was a stay-at-home dad supporting my son’s remote schooling in Ann Arbor while taking graduate coursework and building independent software projects.

That work gives me concrete questions to build around. Can I trace a report back to its inputs? What happens when a document is missing? Can someone see why an automated step failed and decide what to do next?

My earlier roles in financial analysis at Michael Foods and Best Buy, and audit at the Texas State Auditor’s Office, involved models, reconciliation, internal controls, and evidence. Before that, I served as an ICBM Deputy Combat Crew Commander in the United States Air Force.

What I’m building

I build software and data tools around those questions, from validated research records to document workflows and review interfaces. The case studies explain the decisions, show examples, and distinguish what I tested from what still needs work.

I’m interested in work that brings research operations, financial analysis, and practical software development together.

Education

I earned an MS in Accounting Information Systems at the University of Texas at Dallas and a BA in Political Science at the University of Southern California. I also earned three separate degrees at UT Dallas: a BS in Finance, a BS in Business Administration, and a BA in Chemistry.

My graduate study in artificial intelligence through Udacity and Woolf University is paused, as is my computer science study at the University of Colorado Boulder. Neither is an awarded degree.

Building with AI

I use AI coding tools extensively for implementation, tests, documentation, and review. My role is to define the problem, set requirements, direct the work, and evaluate the results. Each case study describes my contribution and the evidence available for that project.

I treat generated code and confident explanations as things to check. The examples on this site use fictional or synthetic data so the workflow can be inspected without exposing operational records.

Why Sorta Cat Company?

Sorta Cat Company is the name I use for my independent projects and this personal practice. The work here is mine to explain, including where tools and collaborators contributed.
